Charles "Willie" Wilton Hughes

September 24, 1937 ~ July 6, 2019 (age 81)

Mr. Charles "Willie" Wilton Hughes, 81, of Oglethorpe, GA, passed away at his residence on July 6, 2019.  

A memorial visitation will be held at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

Mr. Hughes was born on September 24, 1937 in Whiteville, North Carolina to the late Homer Ernest Hughes and Pauline Wells Hughes. He was a member of County Line Baptist Church and was retired from General Electric.  Mr. Hughes was a member of the National Rifle Association and loved to hunt.  He enjoyed reading magazines, playing games and always liked to crack a good joke. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer Hughes and Edward Hughes, and a granddaughter, Nikki Dollar.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Cosby Hughes of Oglethorpe, GA; five children, Angela Dollar (Randy) of Americus, GA, Douglas Hughes (Jennifer) of Ogden, Utah, Kenneth Deese (Frances) of Newton, GA, Melinda Robbins (Al) of Byron, GA, and Jonathan Hughes (Chandra Churchwell) of Ellaville, GA; two sisters, Betty Jean Raistrick of Tequesta, FL, and Marilyn Thomas of Whiteville, NC; fourteen grandchildren, Cassidy Mackey, Jamie Downey, Ashley Self, Shawn Dollar, Bethany Hughes, Jessica Reinhart, Ansley Welch, James Perkins “A.P.” Hughes, Damon Deese, Blake Churchwell, Hannah Hughes, Morgan McClendon, Luke Hughes, and Wesley Hughes; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Phoebe Sumter Hospice, PO Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709, County Line Baptist Church, 6716 GA Hwy 240, Ellaville, GA 31806 or the charity of your choice.
