Sheriff (Ret.) Glynn Cooper, 84, of Cusseta, GA, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, July 16, 2018, at the Roscoe Robinson Center in Cusseta, GA, with Dr. Brad Hicks and Rev. Mark Hudson officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow the service at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA. Serving as pallbearers will be Emmett Bentley, Charles Bentley, Curtis Bryant, Michael Cooper, Pat Cooper, and David Cooper. Honorary pallbearers will be all law enforcement. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 15, 2018, from 6:00-8:00pm.

Sheriff Cooper was born in Schley County, GA, on April 15, 1934, to Wesley Drane and Mozelle Barwick Cooper. He was Baptist by faith and a member of Cusseta First Baptist Church. Elected in 1972, Sheriff Cooper held his position in Chattahoochee County, Georgia, for 44 years – the second longest serving sheriff in the state of Georgia.  He retired from the Sheriff’s Department in December of 2016. Sheriff Cooper enjoyed helping people and loved working with his backhoe on side projects. He was a Master Mason and an emeritus member of Smith Lodge #85. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle N. Cooper, by two brothers, Fred Cooper and Leonard Cooper, and by a sister Minnie Kate Cooper.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Glynda and Dennis Roberts of Buena Vista, GA; by a brother, Drane and Evelyn Cooper of Cusseta, GA; by a sister-in-law, Bertha and Lonnie Barlow of Cochran, GA by a brother-in-law, Henry and Loretta Nelson of Cusseta, GA, and by a sister-in-law Helen and Carl Dorminey of Columbus, GA; by two grandchildren, Jami and Casey Shivers and Laci and Jeff Holguin, all of Buena Vista, GA; and by four grandchildren, Jeanna Kate Shivers, Clara Grace Shivers, Grant Holguin, and Callen Holguin. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
